Portable Gantry Crane

There are just three main parts to the aluminium gantry crane, all which fold up or take apart nice and neat. They are secured together by two strong straps into a compact bundle making it ideal for moving and storing. Loading into a van/lorry for transporting to another location is no problem. Our smaller models can be erected by a single person in less than a minute whilst some of the larger models will need two people and take just a little longer to set up.

Light, Compact & Adjustable Aluminium Gantry Systems

Depending on which model is selected the total weight of our aluminium gantry systems ranges from 37kg up to 342kg. This makes them lightweight and easy to handle due to the quality aluminium used during the manufacturing process. Each model can also be height adjusted to facilitate different scenarios with the smallest adjustment being 500mm to the largest at 1200mm depending on the range and size selected.

The Rapide Portable Gantry Crane

You will be ready to start your lifting task within a minute with the Rapide aluminium gantry. That’s how long it takes just 1 person to set up. The added bonus is its compact nature. Because the three parts remain connected and fold up together it is really easy to to put up, take down and put in and take out of your work van. What’s more weighing in at just 37kg (250kg standard model) this is the lightest gantry you are ever likely to come across.
Lifting in the field just became so much easier!

Lifting capacities range between 125kg and 500kg with a choice of beam lengths between 2000mm and 4000mm. Another key benefit is its ability to be height adjusted, which further enhances its capabilities to lift at varying heights. The Rapide can be used for personnel carrying too either for fall arrest situations or for positioning.

The Standard Aluminium Gantry Range

Our standard collection incorporates 3 models, with a 500kg, a 1000kg and a 2000kg lifting capacity. The height is adjustable by around 500mm so it can be set to suit the size of your load and the height you need to lift it too. It is delivered in 3 key parts which lock together with simple steel push pin connectors which enables quick set up.
The overall width of the gantries varies from 2220mm up to 4720mm with working spans from 1208 to 3708mm depending on the model. Fall arrest and work positioning are options for these gantry systems. Weights vary from 45kg for the 500kg model up to 213kg for the largest 2000kg model.

The Custom Porta Gantry Collections

With safe working loads up to 5000kg available these are the largest aluminium porta gantry systems. The total weight of the gantries are a little heavier than the other systems with a base weight of 85kg and the top weight of 342kg depending on model choice. When used for fall arrest or retrieval scenarios up to 5 people can be supported, although the longer beam lengths may not be suitable – please ask. Lower SWL will apply for these tasks so refer to the manufacturers manual.
Although larger in size and strength our custom porta gantry systems will still come in 3 parts which are secured with nuts and bolts so will take a little longer to set up and take down for storage. 2 to 3 minutes for 2-3 people in fact! 4 people will be needed for the largest models which also include stabilising legs.
There are a few height ranges to choose from, small, medium, intermediate and tall as well as a range of top beam lengths. (see Specifications). Each gantry is height adjustable and because they are heavier the larger incorporate mechanisms to aid in the adjustment. This may be a geared wheel or ratchet system.

The Uses of an Aluminium Lifting Gantry

Aluminium gantry cranes have many uses in industrial and commercial sectors. Because they are not permanently fitted they can be a very cost effective alternative to a fitted overhead crane. Yet they can be more costly than a standard steel gantry.
Portable gantries are manufactured in aluminium. Because aluminium is corrosion resistant and therefore suitable for use in clean and/or refrigerated environments.
HVAC industries (heating, ventilation & air conditioning) regularly use aluminium gantry cranes for HVAC applications. Additionally they’re also commonly used in cemeteries for the removal of head stones and other more remote and difficult locations.
Other uses often include such things as animal rescue operations where a lifting frame maybe necessary. These mobile gantries are ideal for placement and retrieval of objects in low recessed or crevassed areas. Places such as man holes and canal locks because the gantry can span the hole/crevasse.
Other areas for use also include stately homes and castles. They maybe used for lifting and moving large ornamental statues etc. In fact portable gantry systems are used in numerous, locations for various lifting purposes. Sometimes they are used for quite off the wall lifting operations.
Portable gantry cranes are ideal when frequent assembly and disassembly is necessary. This may be to store out of the way where space is limited or for transportation to other locations.

Aluminium Gantry Crane Benefits

There are a few key benefits to using an aluminium lifting gantry crane. They are light in weight yet offer a strong and robust lifting framework. Because they can be folded up, they are easy to transport which makes them ideal for site work.
They are easy to assemble in just a few simple steps ready for work. They are just as easy to dismantle again ready for transportation to the next job. Because they have castors they are easy to move around the location where they are used. They also come with its own push travel trolley. This enables easy attachment of lifting slings and other lifting equipment. The trolley also enables the movement of the load along the top beam.
Another excellent benefit of these cranes is that they are made from high quality aluminium. Aluminium possesses excellent weather and corrosion resistance. There is no need to worry about rust on aluminium. This feature means that they are perfect for outdoor lifting applications.
Unlike standard steel mobile gantries, the aluminium gantry can be adjusted in height at small spaced increments. This makes the gantry even more versatile, suiting a wider range of lifting operations.

Maintenance

Aluminium gantries are easy to maintain. Checks should be carried out prior to each use ensuring all parts are sound and pins/bolts etc. are securely located. Periodic inspections should be undertaken to check for damaged parts. Look out for cracks, corrosion, dents, bent parts, missing parts, and wheel locks engage securely.
It is wise to keep your portable gantry cranes clean and periodically lubricate the castors. Cleaning an aluminium lifting gantry is as easy as washing a car. A bucket of soapy water and a brush or sponge will do the trick.

Moving under load

Lifting Gantry Direct always recommend that any portable lifting gantry should NOT be moved whilst it is holding a load. However in some circumstances it is possible to use these gantry cranes to move a load. Moving the gantry whilst loaded should ONLY be done if the ground/surface of travel is level. The distance of travel should be minimal.
Furthermore there should be at least two people to move a loaded gantry. More if possible, as many hands make light work! This will ensure the gantry remains stable and the load does not swing. You should avoid excessive swinging of the load as this could topple the framework.
